Before you start writing about football derbies, you have to explain what derby is, what matches are called derbies. The definition of "the struggle of the teams of the same city" comes across those who say what derby means. It is an accurate definition, although incomplete.

The most important common point between the two Football teams in the first years when the definition of Derby was first introduced is that they were established in the same city. The struggle between the teams of the same city in the years when the means of communication and transportation were not so developed and football did not become an industry is of course the only issue that separates the others and makes those matches special. But today's concept of a derby match is far beyond that.

There are many reasons between the two football clubs that make their matches special. For this reason, the matches of teams of different cities such as Barcelona - Real Madrid are now referred to as Derby. Because there are many reasons that make these matches special now.

Galatasaray - Fenerbahce teams of the same city, such as the matches (in general) only football is sourced. As everyone knows, there is no religious, racial or other distinction between these two teams. Galatasaray - Fenerbahce challenge meets the definition of Derby exactly in a basic sense. But nowadays the definition of Derby is fed from many non-football sources. Religious as in the Glasgow Rangers - Celtic derby, political reasons as in the Rome - Lazio derby (although they are teams of the same city) have precluded the first derby definition.

The Juventus - Inter derbies referred to as the Italy Derby are an example of this situation. Juventus is the most successful team in the National League and cups in the years when the Italian Derby definition was first introduced. In the same years Inter is a team that has won many successes in Europe, so the challenge of these two teams is special and Derby has been named.

This is the answer to the question of what is a derby. In future articles we will continue to explain the sources fed by the definition of Derby with example derbies. Don't forget to follow, comment and Share on social media.
